2012 Australian Deaf Games Official App - Silent Tweets





With the 2012 Australian Deaf Games fast approaching, we wanted to tell you all about the official Games app, Silent Tweets.

It is a smartphone app which will allow you to access the Games results. It will communicate important information about the Games such as any transport notifications, sports’ arrangements and social program events. You can be informed wherever you are about any up-to-the-minute changes.

Silent Tweets was designed by Australian Communication Exchange (ACE) as a free community broadcasting tool for people who are Deaf and hearing impaired. It allows users to share information or announcements that are normally broadcasted over loudspeakers or radio.

You will be able to use Silent Tweets after the Games for community notifications or public announcements such as weather, traffic and emergency alerts.

Visit ACE at the Games Hub to be updated on the iPhone or for assistance with downloading it onto your smartphone. ACE is also running a competition for an iPad2 - find more information in your registration packs or at the ACE stand!

How do I view Silent Tweets?

Step 1: Download the ‘Silent Tweets’ app from the Android Market or Apple App Store.
Step 2: Start the app. A blue marker will appear in the centre of a map, starting at your current GPS location.
Step 3: Click and drag the marker and adjust the viewing radius for the desired location. You can also use the ‘Search’ bar.
Step 4: Read messages by clicking the purple pins. The phone will vibrate when one is nearby.

How do I post messages on Silent Tweets?

Step 1: Click the new tweet button from the bottom menu.
Step 2: Register by creating a username and password, followed by your email address. Click ‘create account.’
Step 3: Select the area for your messages and how long it should be active. Click ‘next.’
Step 4: Write your messages and press send. It will now appear on the map for others to see.
