Games Registration
Q1: What does my registration include?
A: Everyone who registers in the Games will be entitled to entry to the Opening Ceremony and all sports. Also they will receive their Games ID, a Games bag filled with information and giveaways.
Q2: How much is registration?
A: For adults, early bird is $140, which will rise to $160. For senior citizens, it is $115, rising to $135. For youth aged 13-17, it is a flat rate of $70. Children aged 12 and under are FREE. Click on ‘registration’ in the main menu for more details. Proof of age may be asked for seniors, youth and children.
Q3: Who do I submit my registration to?
A: You will need to submit your registration to your Deaf State Sports branch in the state you live in. For example if you live in Queensland, you would need to submit your registration to Deaf Sports and Recreation Queensland.
Q4: I live in Darwin (or Canberra), there is no state sports branch here?
A: If you live in Darwin or anywhere in the Northern Territory, you will need to send your registration to DSRQ. If you live in Canberra or anywhere in the ACT, you will need to send your registration to the XV Australian Deaf Games Coordinator, care of Deaf Society of NSW. Full addresses can be found by clicking on Registration in the main menu.
Q5: Does my Games registration include social events?
A: No – this is a separate cost. See ‘Social Program' for more information.
Q6: Does my Games registration include the Closing Ceremony?
A: No – this is a separate cost. See ‘Closing Ceremony’ for more information.
Q7: Does my Games registration include the Opening Ceremony?
A: Yes – this is included in your Games registration.
Q8: Will daily registration be available?
Yes, daily registrations will be available. They will go on sale during November 2007. Daily registration bracelets can also be purchased at the official Games information booth.
Q9: What will my standard daily registration bracelet cover?
Your daily registration bracelet will entitle you to attend all 'closed' sports that are in play on the day. A different colour will be used for each day. This gives you a wide choice on the day and you will be able to move between each event by simply showing your daily registration bracelet.
Q10: What are 'closed' sports?
The following sports have been identified as ‘closed’ - basketball, beach volleyball, eight ball, netball, swimming, table tennis, tennis. All sports (except swimming and athletics) are between 3-7 days in duration.
Q11: How much will daily registration be?
There will be two rates, depending how many 'closed' sports are being played on one day.

Q12: I am only interested in watching my favourite sport for a couple of days, so what do I do?
You will need to buy a standard daily registration bracelet.
Q13: I have registered my child who is planning to compete in swimming. Do I have to register as well?
If you are going to watch your child compete in swimming, and you are not planning on going to any other sport, then you will need to buy and wear a specially marked daily registration bracelet. If you wish to watch other sports events on the day, you will need to buy a standard daily registration bracelet instead. Alternatively you may wish to register for a full Games package as this will give you a greater range of entitlements and benefits.
Q14: What will my specially marked daily registration bracelet cover?
Your specially marked daily registration bracelet will entitle you to attend swimming only.
Q15: Is there any sport that does not require registration?
Yes, the following sports do not require any form of registration and are open to all spectators: athletics, darts, golf, lawn bowls, squash and ten pin bowling (people competing in these sports will still have to register and pay).

Volunteers 
Q1: How can I become a Volunteer?
The deadline for application is 28 September 2007. Click here to download the registration form. You can print this out and post to the Volunteer Coordinator, GOC08, PO Box 173 Annerley 4103 or email enquiry@austdeafgames.org.au for more information.
Q2: Do I have to register for the Games as well?
Yes, all volunteers must register for the Games. Your information will help build up a databank of information for better planning of future Games.
Q3: Is accommodation for volunteers free?
No, volunteers will have to find their own accommodation.
Q4: I am under 18 years old, can I volunteer?
If you are 13 years old and over, you may be able to volunteer. There are some opportunities for young people aged between 13-17 such as retrieving balls during matches, looking after athletes’ clothing while they are competing, and manning scoreboards. It is essential that at least one of your parents is also a volunteer so you may be rostered together.
Q5: Where do volunteers come from?
Volunteers may come mostly from the local Gold Coast and surrounding areas but there are others who come from Brisbane and interstate.
Q6: Will we have a volunteers training day?
Yes, it is very important that all volunteers undergo full and proper training before they can be rostered on for duty. There may also be some short orientation or training sessions from October 2007 onwards (usually in the evenings or on the weekends).
Q7: Do I need to apply for a Blue Card?
Yes, this is an essential requirement for anyone volunteering in Queensland and involves a police check. It is free to all volunteers and can be obtained from the Commission for Children and Young People and Child Guardian by going to http://www.ccypcg.qld.gov.au/employment/bluecard/applications.html
You must send your application to Deaf Sports and Recreation Queensland no later than the end of September 2007, as the Commission can take several weeks to process it.
You are exempt from the Blue Card requirement if you are aged between 13-17.

Q1: Are there any day trips organised?
A: All tours are being organised through MTA Travel. For more information, click on ‘travel’ in the main menu.

Opening Ceremony
Q1: Where will the Opening Ceremony be held?
A: An exciting Opening Ceremony is planned and will take place at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre on the evening of Thursday, January 3, 2008. The Opening Ceremony is the formal opening of the Games and officially signifies the commencement of competition.
Q2: Do I have to buy tickets for the Opening Ceremony?
A: Entry is FREE to everyone who has registered for the full duration of the Games. Additional tickets to the Opening Ceremony are available at $60 each.
Q3: Where can I order tickets for the Opening Ceremony?
A: Click on ‘schedule’ in the main menu. Download and print the ticket order form and fax or post it to GOC08, PO Box 173 Annerley Qld 4103. You may also order tickets through email to enquiry@austdeafgames.org.au You can also buy tickets at the official Games information booth. Closing Ceremony
Q1: Where will the Closing Ceremony be held?
A: The XV Australian Deaf Games will conclude in a wonderful evening of fun for the athletes. It is a time when the athletes can relax, “let their hair down” after the intense 8 days of competition and take time to enjoy themselves with the many friends they will have made during the previous few days. It is also a time where sincere thanks can be formally extended to the many volunteers, sponsors, officials, family, friends and others involved in the Games’ organisation can be formally acknowledged. The Closing Ceremony will be held at Dreamworld on the evening of Thursday 10 January 2008.
Q2: Do I have to buy tickets for the Closing Ceremony?
A: Yes, tickets are on sale as follows:
· 0-4 FREE
· Children (5-13 yrs) / Seniors 65yrs and over $35
· Adults $40
This is a big saving of $24 for adults!
Q3: Where can I order tickets for the Closing Ceremony?

Sports
Q1: Where will the different sports beheld?
A: All sports are sited within a North-South area including Runaway Bay in the north to Carrara in the south, with Ashmore and Southport in the middle.

Q3: I am new to deaf sports, how do I get involved in the Australian Deaf Games?
A: Congratulations on making the first step to get involved! We suggest that you contact the State Sports Branch in your state – you can find a full list by clicking on ‘registrations’ in the main menu. You can also contact the Sports Convenor in your preferred sport by clicking and opening the registration form for that sport.

Social Program
Who organises the Social Program?
The Social Program is jointly managed between Deaf Sports and Recreation Queensland (DSRQ) and Queensland Association of the Deaf (QAD). You can contact them on dsrq.qad08@iinet.net.au for more information.
Where are the functions for evening ‘get togethers’ and parties?
The Southport Sharks is the official social ‘hub’ of the Australian Deaf Games.
A FREE shuttle bus service is available between Southport Sharks and your accommodation covering the following areas:
· North to Paradise Point
· South to Australia Fair
· West to Arundel and Parkwood
How can I order tickets for social events?
Tickets are available now! Click here. Alternatively, you can go to the Games information booth to purchase tickets.
What’s happening for New Year’s Eve?
The Gold Coast Deaf Club may arrange a fabulous New Year’s Eve party! Details are still being worked out. If you are interested, send an email to enquiry@austdeafgames.org.au and we will pass it on.

Children
Our children are 13, 6 and 4 years old. Do we have to pay registration for all of them?
All children who are aged 12 and under are FREE. They will still have to fill out a registration form so that they can wear Games ID. Only your 13 year old will have to pay Youth registration, which will entitle him or her to access the Opening Ceremony and all sports. Your State Branch may have to ask for proof of age.
Is there any child care provided during the Games?
Child care is available at Runaway Bay Sports Super Centre for people who are staying at The Lodges. For more information, go to www.sportssupercentre.com.au and click on ‘programs’. The Southport Sharks also has a children’s games room. For more information, go to www.southportsharks.com.au and click on ‘junior sharks’.
The GOC08 will not provide any child care programs through the Games, however check the DSRQ-QAD social program for any children’s activities that may be held during the evening, or email dsrq.qad08@iinet.net.au

General
Q1: Who owns the Australian Deaf Games?
A: The Australian Deaf Games is owned and managed by Deaf Sports Australia, which is a national not for profit organisation with the aim of promoting sport to Australians who are deaf or have a hearing impairment.
Q2: Who can compete in the Australian Deaf Games?
A: Anyone who is deaf or has a hearing impairment can enter! They must live in Australia. For the first time, New Zealand has been invited to compete in the XV Australian Deaf Games as part of a trans-tasman relationship.
Q3: I have a dream of representing Australia – will the Australian Deaf Games help me reach my goal?
A: Yes, definitely! The Australian Deaf Games is part of a selection process to pick the best, fastest, strongest people toward an Australian Team to go to various international events such as the Deaflympics and many other international deaf sporting events. Go to www.deafsports.org.au for more information.
Q4: I live in a different country – can I compete in the Australian Deaf Games?
A: No. You should contact your country’s national deaf sports body about entering in different sports competitions in your country, or contact Deaflympics on www.deaflympics.com for more information.
Q5: Will discounts be available on buses and trains for interstate visitors?
A: The Games Organising Committee is currently liaising with Translink and Surfside Buslines. More information will be released at a later date.
Q6: What about pensioner discounts on public transport?
A: Interstate pensioners may be able to access concession travel (half price) in Queensland only if they can show a valid Centrelink Pension Card. However, concession travel may not be available during peak hour travel times. Peak hour is generally regarded as being between 5:00am and 9:00am and between 3:30pm and 7:00pm. It’s a good idea to check with the bus driver first.
Q7: Are there any shops near the Runaway Bay Super Sports Centre?
A: Yes, the Runaway Bay Shopping Centre is only 10 minutes walk away, and about 30 minutes to Harbour Town, a popular discount shopping centre.
Q8: How do I book my accommodation?
A: We suggest that you contact MTA Travel and discuss your requirements with Deborah Liquorish, see 'Travel' in the main menu for more information.Accommodation may be available at the Runaway Bay Sports Super Complex, which is within walking distance of six sports. Otherwise there are plenty of other accommodation options to suit your budget and needs.
